What dates will Wild Lights take place at Dublin Zoo?

Wild Lights opens on Thursday 1st of November 2018 and runs until Sunday, 6th January 2019.

Please see evenings available on selected months:

November: Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

December: Every evening (Monday – Sunday). However, it will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St. Stephen's Day.

January: Tuesday 1st January – Sunday, 6th January

What is the entrance cost to Wild Lights?

  • Adults: €20
  • Child: €15
  • Under 3s: €0 (a ticket is still required that must be added to online purchase free of charge)
  • Student: €16
  • Senior Citizen: €16

Annual Pass

  • Adults: €18
  • Child: €12

What time does the event start and finish?

Admission to Wild Lights is from 5pm - 9pm. Last entry to the event is strictly 8pm.

What is included in the event?

Dive into an Ocean of Light at this year’s Wild Lights in Dublin Zoo, with an entirely new cast of illuminated giant silk lanterns celebrating the wonders of the life aquatic. From giant squid to polar bears, penguins, colossal blue whales and dainty seahorses, Dublin Zoo, once again, will be transformed into a world of illumination with lanterns tailor-made especially for this year’s event.

Traditional Chinese performers, a craft market and an array of Asian food will make Wild Lights 2018 a truly unforgettable night where friends and families celebrate the festive season together.

 

How is Wild Lights 2018 different to last year?

Spectacular new themes feature in this year’s enchanting experience – dive into an Ocean of Light, where schools of vibrant fish, luminous jellyfish and the endangered hammerhead shark reside. Walk through Winter Wonderland, home to Arctic favourites such as polar bears and penguins. Explore Celebrating China, a flavour of the east, and dash up to The North Pole where a dazzling 16-metre high silk Christmas tree sparkles on high.

                                                                                                               

Security Arrangements for Entry

Entry to Wild Lights is be subject to bag searches. For the safety and enjoyment of all attending, An Garda Síochána and Dublin Zoo request that patrons leave bags at home while attending Wild Lights.

Note: In line with standard protocol for recent events, backpacks and large bags are not be permitted. Only small bags measuring no bigger than A4 (8.27in/21cm x 11.7/ 29.7cm) will be permitted into the venue.
 

Exceptions will be made for people with medical conditions and children, but all bags will be subject to search.

This is an alcohol and drug free event.

Management reserves the right to refuse admission and to eject any persons attempting to interfere with Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo or gain access to any non-public areas within the Zoo. Please note and adhere to all public signage and staff instructions while in the Zoo.

 

Will I see any animals?

No, it's very unlikely you'll see the animals as at that time of year they'll mostly be in their indoor habitats and houses where it's warm!

Who is the event suitable for?

The event is suitable for all ages, families, couples and groups alike. This event is wheelchair and buggy accessible.

Will the event go ahead in bad weather?

Wild Lights will still go ahead unless weather conditions are deemed unsafe for our visitors, staff and animals, in which the event will be cancelled.

 

What happens if my event is cancelled?

Dublin Zoo reserves the right to cancel any nights of the Wild Lights event for any reason deemed necessary for the safety and well-being of our visitors, staff and animals including unsafe weather conditions.

In the event of a cancellation of Wild Lights, attendees will be notified at the earliest convenience by email to the email address used to book the tickets. It is the responsibility of the attendees to check their emails before departing for the event to check for any updates, and to make sure email addresses are correctly entered when booking tickets.

In the event of a cancellation, attendees will be given a full refund which they will receive within 15 working days maximum of the cancelled event.

Dublin Zoo accepts no responsibility for a customer’s inability to attend Wild Lights due to any external factor including but not exclusive to traffic restrictions, illness, weather conditions etc.

Dublin Zoo reserves the right to change or update event timings and content up to and on the day of the event.

Is this event accessible for wheelchairs and buggies?

Yes, the route has been designed so that wheelchairs and buggies can get around as easily as possible.
For visitors with mobility issues, Dublin Zoo has a limited number of wheelchairs. These wheelchairs are available on a first-come first-served basis.

What should I wear?

Please be aware that this is an outdoor winter event so please dress appropriately. 

I have luggage, where can I leave it?

We have a small number of lockers at the Zoo where you can leave small bags e.g up to the size of a carry on suitcase. These will be filled on a first-come, first served basis. We don't have facilities to take large suitcases.

Are there cash machines on site?

There is one ATM on-site at Wild Lights, located in the main gift shop at the entrance of the Zoo. The Meerkat Restaurant can also provide cash-back.

 

TICKET INFORMATION

What date are tickets for Wild Lights on sale?

Tickets are on sale from Friday, 14th of September 2018. Tickets will be available online only on www.dublinzoo.ie

How do I buy tickets?

Tickets are only available to buy online at www.dublinzoo.ie

There will be no ticket sales available from the ticket office at Dublin Zoo or over the phone.

I would like to make a corporate booking or a booking for a large group, how do I book and what are the rates?

Rates for large booking are charged at the same rate as Annual Pass holders, €18 for Adults and €12 for children. Corporate bookings can be made by emailing the events team at wildlights@dublinzoo.ie or by calling (01) 4748997

Visitors with Special Needs

There are no concessions for the special needs ticket aside from the entry of a free carer, a standard child or adult ticket must be purchased.

Visitors with special needs may admit one accompanying carer free of charge when attending Wild Lights. Free of charge carer tickets are required for entry and can be acquired by contacting the Dublin Zoo events team at wildlights@dublinzoo.ie

Please bring relevant ID and documentation, such as an IAA Autism ID card, or an associated membership card which confirms the visitor is unable to visit Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo independently without the aid of a carer or mobility aid.

How long will my ticket be valid for?

Wild Lights is a date specific event. Tickets are valid for the chosen date of booking ONLY. Changes can be made up to 7 days before the date of the original ticket to the event, see below for more details

Can I change the date of my Wild Lights ticket?

Dublin Zoo offers Wild Lights ticket purchasers the option to change the date of their tickets up to 7 days before the date of the original ticket to the event. Ticket dates can be changed with the Dublin Zoo Events Team for an admin fee. Please email wildlights@dublinzoo.ie with your booking reference, the date you booked, the date you would like to change to, the name and email address you used to book and a contact telephone number.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Tickets go on sale from 14th September and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Do children under 3 years go free?

Yes, children under the age of 3 go free. However, they will still need a ticket which can be booked online free of charge.

Do Dublin Zoo Annual Pass holders get a discount?

Yes, if you have a valid annual pass card then you will be entitled a discount. The rate for annual pass adults is €18 and children is €12.

Do Fota Wildlife Park Annual Pass holders get a discount?

No, unfortunately we do not offer a discount for Fota Wildlife Park’s annual pass holders.

What do I need to avail of the Annual Pass holder’s discount?

A valid annual pass is required to avail of the annual pass discount. You will be required to enter your unique annual pass number when booking online. A valid annual pass matching the name on the Wild Lights ticket will also need to be presented on arrival at the Dublin Zoo entrance for the event. Normal annual pass T&C's apply.

Do I need to print my ticket for entry?

No, we don't require tickets to be printed. E-tickets can be scanned on any mobile device. However, if you wish to print you ticket we will accept them in paper format too.  

What is Dublin Zoo's ticket cancellation policy for Wild Lights?

Dublin Zoo does not offer refunds for Wild Lights tickets apart from in the event of a venue closure actioned by Dublin Zoo.

If I buy a Wild Lights ticket, can I come to the Zoo in the daytime?

No, Wild Lights event admission tickets do not give admission to the Zoo during daytime operating hours.

I don't have my ticket confirmation, what should I do?

You should have received an email from Dublin Zoo after booking with your ticket information however, due to high volumes of site traffic on certain dates, this is sometimes delayed. If you have not received this, have a look in your junk/spam email folder. If you're still having difficulties, email wildlights@dublinzoo.ie with your booking reference, the date you booked, the name and email address you used to book and a contact telephone number, and we will be happy to help.

How to get to Wild Lights in Dublin Zoo?

Dublin Zoo is situated in Phoenix Park in the city of Dublin. The city is easily accessible from all over Ireland by car, bus and train. Dublin Zoo is a 20 minute walk from Heuston Station and from the LUAS red line stop.
Dublin Bus routes close to Dublin Zoo: 25, 26, 46A, 66 / 66A / 66B, 67, 69

Is there car parking at Wild Lights?

There is no specific car parking for Wild Lights in Dublin Zoo, although there are free car parking spaces around the Phoenix Park which include the Lord's Walk car park, Chesterfield Avenue and the North Road.
