Giraffe Habitat Challenge Winners
For Science Week 2019, Dublin Zoo with their sustainability partner, SSE Airtricty, challenged primary and secondary school children to design a sustainable giraffe habitat for the growing giraffe herd in Dublin Zoo.
To help the young scientists, engineers and animal enthusiasts with their projects, the Discovery and Learning Team held a number of Giraffe Habitat Workshops which featured insights from a team of professionals including Team Leader Helen Clarke Bennett, engineers with the Hayes Higgins Partnership and Mia Fahy McCarthy, Head of Sustainability in SSE Airtricity.
The participants in the Giraffe Habitat Challenge sent in a video of the best giraffe habitat design from their class and the winners have been chosen by a panel of experts from Dublin Zoo and SSE Airtricty.
The overall primary and secondary school winners have received a generous €2,000 off their school’s electricity bill with the runners-up winning a trip to W5, Belfast’s exciting science and discovery centre.
