    Dublin Zoo is pioneering the use of 'Living Needles' a major new technique in which a blood-sucking insect is used to test the health and well-being of its animals. The South American Kissing Bugs or Triamtomid Bugs' voracious appetite offers keepers and vets a stress free means of gaining samples of blood without the use of needles and syringes.

    Dublin Zoo is celebrating having experienced its busiest year in its 176 year history. More than 905,000 people visited the Zoo during 2007! The massive figure represents a rise of over 20 on last year, despite a summer which will go down in the history books as one of the wettest on record.
