Native Species Weekend 2008

Friday, 18 April 2008

Native Species Weekend takes place on the 19th-20th April

Following on from the success of last year’s event, Dublin Zoo and a wide variety of Irish conservation organisations are hosting another Native Species Weekend on the 19th-20th April. In a special celebration of Irish wildlife, Dublin Zoo is inviting its visitors to spare a thought for the animals that share their gardens, their local ponds, fields, skies and even under the stones around their homes.

Research and conservation coordinator, Sandra Devaney, says,
"The Native Species Weekend is going to be a fantastic event. There will be a marquee on the main lawn where interactive information stands will be set up and visitors can meet with many of Ireland’s experts on native wildlife. There’ll be plenty to keep children (and adults alike) busy with touch-tables, visitors from the sea and hands-on activities! This is a great opportunity to learn more about our native wildlife and how we all can play a role in protecting it for the future."

The following is a list of organisations attending the Native Species Weekend: Bat Conservation Ireland, Biology.ie, BirdWatch Ireland, Crann, CRISIS, Dublin City Council Biodiversity Officer, Enfo, Galway Atlantaquarium, Irish Peatlands Council, Irish Wildlife trust, Marine Dimensions, National sealife Bray, National History Museum, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Sustainable Energy Ireland, Tree council of Ireland and Don Conroy.
