Double Celebrations!

Monday, 25 February 2013

Dublin Zoo is delighted to introduce a new female goeldi’s monkey to the recently refurbished South American House. The goeldi moved into her new home on Sunday February 24.

In a double celebration Dublin Zoo also welcomed Kellogg’s Coco Pops on board as sponsors of the South American House. The partnership between Dublin Zoo and Kellogg’s Coco Pops is a great fit for both companies and will help contribute to the upkeep of the South American House, conservation in the wild and enhance the visitor experience even further.

The South American House proudly sponsored by Kellogg’s Coco Pops is home to over nine species including monkeys, tortoises and parrots from the rainforests of Central and South America. Colourful or camouflaged, shy or show-off, each species has its own place in the forests. However, many of these species are now in danger due to hunting and deforestation.

Goeldi’s monkeys blend into the forest so well that they were only first described in 1904. These rare, dark-haired monkeys, from western regions of South America’s tropical rainforests, mainly feed on fruit, vegetables, bird eggs and insects.

Leo Oosterweghel, Director at Dublin Zoo commented, “This is a really exciting time for everyone at Dublin Zoo and we are thrilled to welcome Kellogg’s Coco Pops to the South American House.

“This partnership is a major boost for Dublin Zoo as we continuously strive to make vital infrastructural improvements. The sponsorship revenue will contribute to the care, running costs and conservation of the species that live in the South American House.”

Bernadette Grant, Kellogg Company Ireland said, “Kellogg’s has a track record in supporting family initiatives in Ireland and like Dublin Zoo, is part of the fibre of family life in Ireland. The work that Dublin Zoo carries out with the animals that are housed in the South American is world-class and Kellogg’s is delighted to support the Zoo and its conservation programme.

“Kellogg’s Coco Pops is a fun brand and is a natural fit with the Zoo. We look forward to developing this partnership over the coming months and to bringing some of Coco the Monkey’s lively spirit to Dublin Zoo.”
