Creating Mud Wallows for the Asian elephants

Friday, 22 July 2016

Renowned Irish potter Nicholas Mosse regularly donates pottery clay to Dublin Zoo which is used to create mud wallows for the herd of Asian elephants!

The elephants really enjoy bathing in clay and when it dries into their skin they like to scratch and scrape it off - It’s great for exfoliating their skin!

Creating a mud wallow for a herd of elephants is a big job, check out these photos of how the wallow is created and see the elephants enjoying themselves in the mud.
