Mangrove monitor

Mangrove monitor

Monitóir mangrόbh

These large lizards live in mangroves, estuaries and other coastal habitats, from New Guinea to northern Australia. They feed on crabs, eggs, fish and other small vertebrates – even baby crocodiles. They have primitive venom glands and deliver venom when they bite. Mangrove monitors are quite common but are hunted for their skin and as food.
