Royal python

Royal python

Píotón ríoga

This relatively small python is found in West and Central Africa. Its main habitat is tropical grassland and savannah, where it hunts small mammals on the ground. The story goes that it
is called ‘royal’ because African rulers used to wear the (living) snake as jewellery. It is also known as the ‘ball python’ because it coils into a tight ball when threatened.
