2010: International Year of Biodiversity

The purpose of International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) was to raise public awareness of the importance of biodiversity, the consequences of its loss and to find ways to halt its decline. Dublin -Zoo was part of a national committee for IYB, coordinated by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Year-round calendar of events took place in the zoo from children’s camps and workshops, Biodiversity Modules being taught by the Education Department, biodiversity-themed teachers’ course, autumn lecture series, the Native Species Weekend and a celebration of National Biodiversity Day. For National Biodiversity Day, Dublin Zoo hosted a variety of self-guided trails to highlight local and global biodiversity.
